Knitting a Perfect Winter Match: A Hat and Cowl Set Design
ARE YOU IN SEARCH of a stylish and cozy matching set to keep you warm this winter? Look no further than Aimée Hansen’s Majestic Moraine cowl, which inspired me to create a coordinating hat.
But with only one skein of yarn left from the cowl, I thought my dream of a matching set may be thwarted. I even considered shortening the brinm and turning the hat into a skullcap to save on yarn, but halfway through, it was clear that one skein just wouldn’t cut it. Webs came to the rescue and my additional yarn arrived in no time.
With my yarn worries behind me, I could focus on creating the hat of my dreams. I added 9 rows of rib to the brim and knit the full 7 1/2 inches before starting the decreases for the top of the hat. The beautiful texture of the pattern combined with the gorgeous Malabrigo Noventa yarn came together to create a stunning set that will be perfect for those cold winter mornings.
Knit a Matching Hat
So if you’d like to create your own set based on the Majestic Moraine cowl, it’s pretty easy to do. Start by knitting the cowl, which will require 2 skeins of chunky yarn. The hat will require one and half additional skeins, so be sure to purchase enough yarn before starting this set.
Hat Pattern
