R2D2 Hat
Knitting a special gift for my grandson has always been a joy, but creating a colorwork hat featuring everyone’s favorite Star Wars character, R2D2, was especially satisfying. It all started when I came across an R2D2 chart on Pinterest. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to use it to make something special for my grandson.
Modifying Knitting Charts
However, the chart I found was a bit rough around the edges, so I took some time to clean it up and make it look better. I used a copy of an R2D2 toy I found online and a Google spreadsheet to adjust the design and make it more like the toy, rather than generic. I also tried to be thoughtful around the colorwork required as I was changing the design. My goal was to minimize the number of long floats needed in the design. When I was finished, I was really happy with how the chart turned out.
Using the cleaned-up chart as my guide, I began knitting my grandson’s hat. I used a stranded colorwork technique to create the R2D2 design, and it was so much fun to see the design come to life as I worked through the chart.
Bringing Joy With Knitting
The finished hat was a huge hit with my grandson, and he’s been wearing it nonstop since I gave it to him. In fact, he’s even worn it to Disneyland a couple of times and received compliments from several people on his unique and adorable hat.
I’m so glad I found that R2D2 chart on Pinterest and took the time to make it my own. It was such a fun and rewarding project, and I can’t wait to knit more colorwork hats in the future.
